Its Over
Its Over 2009 is over. The entire decade is over. Its all history. I hope you did stuff you were proud of. I did a few things Im proud of, and have a few projects that will roll over to next year. I even have a project Ill rollover for anytime next decade. The point is, no matter what you wanted to do, no matter what your good intentions were, its too late to count them for this last year or decade. What you choose to do now, each day, each month, each year, is a part of the legacy you leave. Hopefully your legacy will be rich and meaningful, not a simple byline. You, I, we, have the power to do and change. So get busy. Or, as Dory from Finding Nemo sings, just keep swimming, just keep swimming! Its Over 2009 is over. The entire decade is over. How To Turn Football Party Leftovers Into DIY Beauty Recipes
How To Turn Football Party Leftovers Into DIY Beauty Recipes Hi guys! Iâm Heather Marianna, creator of Beauty Kitchen, an all-natural beauty and skincare line with whimsical products including red wine eye gels, chocolate sugar scrub, watermelon lip mask, bath bombs, clay masks and more. On my YouTube channel, I post a ton of fun DIY beauty treatments using common kitchen household ingredients ( a lot of my videos have over 3 million views, yipppeee!) and with football season around the corner, I wanted to share one of my most popular segments with you guys: How To Turn Popular Football Party Foods into DIY beauty treatments. I came up with this idea, while helping set up a football viewing party for my boyfriend and his friends. Iâm not really one into sports, so naturally I just prided myself upon throwing a kick ass party for everyone to enjoy. While the guys were busy yelling at the screen, I was preparing a few party foods for them to indulge in. I had a handful of leftover ingredients and never one to be wasteful, I decided to whip up a few beauty masks that I could experiment with and enjoy during the rest of the game. Iâve demonstrated these recipes nationwide on morning news shows in Las Vegas, Green Bay, San Diego and Portland and today Iâm excited to share them with you. Game on! Eliminating The Nerves Of Networking - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career
Eliminating The Nerves Of Networking - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Do you walk away from networking situations feeling like it was a display of your best you? Or do you walk out the door feeling like you missed out on great relationships simply because you were too nervous? Looking at those who network best, it seems to be some natural trait that they were born with. After leaving a conversation with one, you are left with a memorable overview of not only of them, but also their views. They also tend to be the ones you first reach out to after an event to continue the connection and conversation. For some, this ability is natural. For many, it is a learned trait that is self-taught using a variety of techniques. My personal technique is through IMPACT GENERATING OVERVIEW creation. For each area of importance regarding my persona brand I compact them down into a few short key points/sentences. Your IGOs are living entities, and you should revisit them before each event to tailor them to your perspective audience and personal goals. This technique really helps my client Shea because it decreases the chance of letting nerves get the better of her, which used to happen quite frequently. It increases her confidence level, allowing her to be clear and concise when speaking with those she wants to inspire and/or influence. Recently, Shea was in Hawaii for the Menâs Surf Triple Crown, which was a great networking event for her to seek out new sponsors and environmental partners. Beforehand she established IGOs for herself, highlighting the key details below. You (Shea) â"Iâm a Hawaiian born free surfer living in Cardiff, Ca. I recently made the decision to focus on being able to live life on the ocean supporting myself through my surfing. Job/Career path â"Pushing the limits of free surfing that will get people excited about womenâs surfing. For 2012, video creation will be a main vehicle along with the innovative and active partnerships I am building with my sponsors. Involvement (charitable, hobby) â" Being in the water everyday I experience firsthand how our ocean has changed over the years. Other than working locally with communities on their environmental needs where I travel to surf, I am exploring with company partners ways to recycle used surf wax until more surfers start using the eco-friendly versions. Sport (free surfing) â" Surfing for the beauty and the sport itself in the best locations around the world. I care about pushing the limits athletically in surfing and not surfing for a score. Areas for you may also include â" passion (faith, etc), vision, business ventures, family, etc. While it may seem like a lot, these are topics you touch on almost every time you meet someone new or reacquaint yourself with someone you havenât seen in a long time. Most likely you will never speak the IGO sentences verbatim, but you will be aware of the 3 significant details and keep to the point. It then becomes up to the listener to inquire about hearing more simply because they want to. Are you confident going into networking events? Do you have a technique you particularly like? 5 Pointers For Giving Great Interview Feedback
5 Pointers For Giving Great Interview Feedback Imagine spending hours preparing for an interview, scheduling time off from your current job to attend and then giving your everything to a probing hiring manager, only to never hear back about where you went wrong and why you didnt get the job. It would be terribly frustrating and youd likely want little to do with that company in future. Withholding candidate feedback after an unsuccessful interview is an extremely damaging choice that many companies make. Theres a lot of talk about how important it is for organisations to offer an excellent candidate experience, but who sets the rules as to what this actually means? Its up to individual businesses to decide how they choose to go about attracting talent, but one non negotiable element to a great recruitment method is the timely provision of feedback to unsuccessful applicants. Granted, it can be extremely time consuming relaying perceived strengths and weaknesses to each candidate, hence why its so important to put in place a simple feedback process. Even if a person isnt perfect for the role heyve just interviewed for, neglecting them afterwards will give them a terrible impression of the business and is likely to discourage all future engagement and probably give you a bad reputation within their wider network. You might not feel the negative effects of failing to provide feedback immediately, but youll ultimately be shooting yourself in the foot in the long run. Take a look at the following tips to help you get it right: 1. Use pre-made scorecards It goes without saying that before an interview, you need to be really clear on what it is you are assessing the candidate on. Instead of taking down notes next to each question, try creating a template where you can record performance against various specific metrics. It can be extremely difficult to scribe and listen at the same time, so you might find your notes are hard to decipher afterwards. Creating a simple system to rate a candidates abilities, skills and behaviour will help you take away more thorough information and make for easier direct comparison with others. 2. Summarise and file feedback immediately after This one is especially important for hiring managers who are interviewing multiple candidates in one go. To avoid forgetting important details about a candidates performance and your overall impression of them, always compile and summarise your notes immediately afterwards, and be sure to record them on your applicant tracking system. 3. Relay, dont delay Dont wait an unnecessarily long amount of time before providing candidates with feedback. If you have to wait to complete other interviews before making a decision, let them know this is the case when they leave. If you know however, that they are unsuccessful, let them know as soon as possible. The longer you keep them waiting, the longer theyll spend feeling anxious and the harder the blow will be when they find out theyre unsuccessful. 4. Be honest but constructive Feedback is supposed to outline how a candidate has performed. There is no need to rip an ill-performing candidate to shreds all in the name of honesty, but its also unhelpful to gloss over mistakes. Feedback should provide unsuccessful candidates with compelling reason/s they werent selected to move forward. The feedback should be constructive and help the job seeker to be better at their next interview. Feedback shouldnt be a soul-crushing experience that points out a million and one ways they arent right for the role, nor should it be a ego-boosting activity where you falsely commend sub-par candidates and fail to justify the negative outcome. Using examples will help you to explain your choices. 5. Always end on a good note Regardless of the outcome, you should always end the interview process on a good note with all candidates. Just because a candidate slipped up or failed to convince you they are the person for your vacancy, doesnt mean they wont be the perfect fit for another opportunity in your team in the future. Even if you are 100% sure they will never be of value to your company, you cant assume they dont know someone who might be. When it comes to winning over top talent, a companys reputation can be a life-saver or a deal-breaker, so dont go burning bridges! Providing candidates with helpful and timely feedback will not only win you respect from the candidate market in the long run, but will also set you apart from all the frustrating businesses out there who neglect unsuccessful interviewees at the earliest chance. Even though breaking bad news is never fun to do, it will get easier each time, so start providing proper feedback now!

How to Write a Successful Resume and Cover Letter
How to Write a Successful Resume and Cover LetterWriting a successful resume and cover letter can be tricky especially when it comes to finding the right combination of details to get your application into the right hands. This is especially true if you are looking for a job at one of the larger accounting firms or major corporations. So how do you find out which information works best?Well the first and most effective way to write a successful resume and cover letter is to know what they are looking for. Most prospective employers will not take the time to read what you have to say in your resume but they will definitely see your resume and cover letter as they have all others that have been sent out. They will take notice of your skills, qualifications and experience and make an assessment as to whether you are the right person for the job.A great way to find out what is expected from you is to attend some corporate events. By attending these events you will be able to meet the man agers and leaders of the firm as well as learn more about the position you are applying for. It may even be possible to find out what type of personal environment they would like to work in if you do not wish to work in their office. With this information you will be able to tailor your resume and cover letter to their expectations. There are also some things you can do to ensure that your resume is very targeted. For example, do not include personal details such as your name, telephone number or email address in your resume. Most applicants make the mistake of including these details on their resume, thinking that this will be an automatic pass and the application will not be rejected. However, these details can be seen by the management team as it could be seen as a negative aspect and you could find yourself being turned down at the interview stage.Other interesting areas to look at are the qualifications that the applicants have obtained. These are usually provided on the end of their resume and cover letter and should be highlighted. You can use your knowledge of the firm and perhaps ask about specific skills the applicant has acquired. If you are not sure about the level of skills required, there are free resources available that will give you a fair idea.In addition to professional qualifications you should take time to highlight the skills and interests that you are seeking. This is going to be of particular value to those who have recently graduated or are in the early stages of their career. These are people who are often searching for job openings but who have been unable to get these jobs. With this information you can build a good picture of the applicant as well as using it to help you get a better assessment of whether or not the applicant is the right person for the job.The key to writing a successful resume and cover letter is to make the whole process as streamlined as possible. Try to find out what is expected of the applicant and work hard t o produce a resume and cover letter that will be well received. You should also make sure that the CV you submit has been checked for accuracy and that it includes correct contact details. You should also write a resume and cover letter that is relevant to the position you are applying for.The problem with many people is that they spend far too much time worrying about the things that they do not need to worry about. Writing a successful resume and cover letter is not rocket science and should not be taken for granted. With the right preparation and application you will have no problems at all getting a successful application and a job.

Tell Recruiters Youre Looking (Without Your Boss Finding Out)
Tell Recruiters Youre Looking (Without Your Boss Finding Out) Tell Recruiters Youre Looking (Without Your Boss Finding Out) Job Search / LinkedIn Profiles While being employed makes you more appealing to employers, looking for a new job while working full-time can be challenging. Perhaps the biggest challenge is keeping your job search a secret from your boss. Theres a new LinkedIn program that can help with that. LinkedIn recently introduced a new program for job seekers that makes looking for a job on LinkedIn easier. With this new program, you can alert recruiters that youâre open to new opportunities without broadcasting it to the world. This new program takes only a few minutes to set up on your LinkedIn account. The bonus is itâs free. To begin go to Settings Privacy, scroll down to Job Seeking Preferences, and turn on Let recruiters know youre open to opportunities. Once you turn on Job Alerts LinkedIn directs you to your Career Interests page where you can set preferences for: Location (bonus you can add more than one) Level of experience (from entry to executive level) Industry (again, allows more than one) Size of company (small, mid-sized, large) Type of opportunity (full-time or contract) Job titles or roles that interest you Hereâs a peek at what that looks like Additionally, youâre able to set your profile so that job posters are able to see your entire profile when you apply for jobs. LinkedIn will share your interests with recruiters for 90 days, at which point your selections will reset. LinkedIn notes that this is to keep your information relevant and up-to-date. Regarding privacy, while LinkedIn states that they cannot guarantee your privacy only recruiters who use LinkedInâs Recruiter will have access to your preferences and interest information. LinkedIn protects job seekers through the use of unique company identifiers. If a recruiterâs âCompany IDâ is the same as the âCompany IDâ of your current employer on your LinkedIn profile that recruiter shouldnât see your âcareer interest preferences.â Still there is no guarantee of privacy. Of course, this new program makes it easier for recruiters to source candidates as well. Getting a heads up that people are open to new opportunities takes the fear out of making unwelcome overtures to potential candidates who arenât interested. So if youre actively looking or just open to hearing about new opportunities, take a few minutes to set your preferences today. Updated 2/13/19
